JCI Bauchi City Commits 3-Day Career Guidance, Impacting Over 667 Students Across Bauchi State
Junior Chamber International (JCI) Bauchi City has once again demonstrated its commitment to youth development and empowerment through a 3-day impactful initiative titled "Career Guidance and Talk Show for Secondary Schools in Bauchi State." The program centered on the theme: “Building Resilient Minds: Empowering the Next Generation Through Mental Well-being, Future Readiness, and Media Literacy.”
The youth-focused project, led by JCI Bauchi City, engaged 667 students and 23 teachers across three secondary schools in Bauchi State. The initiative focused on instilling self-awareness, future-readiness, and digital responsibility in students, aiming to empower the next generation with the tools to thrive in a dynamic world.
Benefiting Students in Classroom
In his opening remarks, JCI Bauchi City President, Akintunde Tajudeen Taiwo, emphasized the vision behind the project: “This program was designed to ignite purpose, potential, and possibilities in our young people. It is not just about preparing students for exams but preparing them for life—mentally, emotionally, and intellectually.”
The highlights of JCI Bauchi City's commitment are as follows:
Day 1: Government Girls Day Secondary School (GGDSS), Birshi Fulani. With a turnout of 616 students and 19 teachers, the session, facilitated by youth mentors, focused on career planning, leadership, and vocational exploration. The Principal, Mallama Hajarah, expressed appreciation, saying: “This is a much-needed initiative. Our students are inspired to think beyond the classroom and pursue meaningful paths.”
Day 2: BODMAS International Schools, Bauchi. Engaging 28 students and 3 staff members, the session focused on mental well-being and emotional intelligence. Principal Mr. Tope Adebisi noted: “The message of resilience, self-care, and peer support came at a crucial time for these students. It was inspiring.”
Day 3: Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Gwallameji. With 23 students and one teacher, the session explored Media Literacy, addressing misinformation, digital safety, and responsible media use. Mallam Shehu, one of the Principals, remarked: “Our students now understand that digital tools can be powerful when used responsibly and with discernment.”
The interactive sessions encouraged students to ask questions, share personal experiences, and set career goals, with facilitators guiding them on how to access mentorship, scholarships, and entrepreneurship opportunities.
The project reflects JCI Bauchi City’s broader mission to foster resilient youth leadership and promote the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). The President of JCI Bauchi City, Akintunde Tajudeen, said: “Young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow but the changemakers of today. We are proud to walk with them on this journey.”
The Career Guidance and Talk Show initiative ended on a high note, with students expressing gratitude and enthusiasm for future engagements. JCI Bauchi City pledged to continue its mentorship and leadership development efforts across more schools in the state.
