Wikki Tourists Stun Enyimba in Aba: Thunderbolt Seals Battle of Elephants

By Nasiru IBRAHIM, Bauchi

It was a day to remember in Aba as Wikki Tourists pulled off a historic 1–0 away win over Enyimba International, claiming their first-ever triumph at the Enyimba Stadium in what had been billed as a true “battle of elephant vs elephant.”

The defining moment came in the 33rd minute, when Abubakar Aliyu unleashed a thunderbolt from over 40 yards, leaving the Enyimba goalkeeper helpless and the home crowd in stunned silence. It was a strike of pure brilliance, the kind that defines seasons, and it ultimately separated the two sides in an evenly contested encounter.

Enyimba, the hosts and perennial league contenders, dominated possession for long spells, pressing high and testing Wikki’s defence with a series of shots and set-pieces. Yet, the Bauchi side held firm  Utum Godswill made crucial saves, Abba Musa and Haruna Aliyu marshalled the backline, and Lamido Jama’are provided a constant attacking outlet on the right flank. Wikki’s composure under pressure was a testament to their tactical discipline and determination.

The win significantly reshaped the league standings: Wikki climbed from 12th to 7th with 19 points after 13 games, while Enyimba slipped from 8th to 11th, now on 17 points. For Wikki, the victory isn’t just about points  it’s about belief, momentum, and a historic statement in a league dominated by big clubs.

Up next, Wikki return to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi, to host Bayelsa United, while Enyimba travel northwest to face Katsina United at the Mohammed Dikko Stadium.

The battle for the summit is heating up. Ikorodu City leapfrogged Nasarawa United after a thrilling 2–1 win over Plateau United, now leading the league with 24 points from 13 matches. Nasarawa United had to settle for a draw away at Kun Khalifat, sharing the spoils in a hard-fought match.

Matchday 13 saw one away win, six home victories, and one draw, showing the unpredictable and competitive nature of this season’s NPFL. Tomorrow, Barau FC welcome Enugu Rangers to the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, in what promises to be another exciting clash.

Wikki Tourists’ victory in Aba is more than just three points. In a match branded the “battle of elephant vs elephant”, it showcased resilience, tactical intelligence, and individual brilliance. And while Abubakar Aliyu’s stunning strike will dominate highlight reels, it was the collective spirit of the team that etched this historic night into the annals of NPFL history.
