Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Bauchi State Chapter in collaboration with UNICEF, Al-Muhibba Foundation and SUBEB has celebrated this year’s International Women’s Day by training 50 women on importance of being educated to safeguard the home and society.

The training which held at the American space, Bauchi was attended by the women chosen who will be educated alongside vocational skills so as to better their lives and that of their families.

In her remarks, the chairperson of NAWOJ, Rashida Yusuf, commended the women for their zeal to go back to school despite challenges. She encouraged them to take the second chance at education offered them serious and be serious in their studies. She promised to work assiduously in ensuring that women journalists publicize their success stories.

“we are doing this training to touch the lives of these women  since they want a second chance , they want basic literacy, maybe they have not done it due to one reason or the other and they are here willingly to see how they can improve, advance because the world is now changing. We as NAWOJians are doing our best to ensure that we bring to the limelight issues that affect the lives of women”.

“We are celebrating the achievements of women worldwide the day is also a call for action in accelerating gender priority in the working world. We all know that the theme of this year. The theme came at the right time whereby all stakeholders are up and doing including government to ensure that women have attained that goal”. 

“I am calling on journalists to always report the success stories of women so that we encourage others especially at the grassroots and also to advocate more priority issues that will put women in the centre of development. We show compassion, positive attitude towards women”.

In his remarks Umar Shira who represented UNICEF implementing partners enjoined the women to be proactive, and embrace soft skills that will empower them financially. He appreciated NAWOJ for the giant strides in alleviating the plight of women adding that the partners are ready to work with the association for the progress of the women.

Earlier in his remarks, the representative of Al-Muhibba foundation, Aliyu Duguri said the training was conceived for women who are at a disadvantaged position to be educated.

“A-Muhibbal foundation works in the areas of health, education, skills acquisition, and people living with disabilities. We partner with different NGOs both within and outside the country. We have different centers where we educate women on a lot of issues. We collaborated with Bauchi agency for mass education BASAME who provided the facilitators for the different vocation centers and we pay these volunteers. You are the first set that will be trained here. You will be thought different skills.

A beneficiary, asamu Aliyu Idris commended the organizers for the training. The mother of 4, said she was unable to continue with her Education after her secondary school due to financial difficulties. She added that her dream is to become a medical doctor and promised to maximize the opportunity given to her maximally.

Various facilitators at the training addressed the women on the need to be passionate in pursuing education as it the only means for them to be empowered. The participants were offered learning materials to aid their learning process. 
This year’s theme INVEST IN WOMEN is timely as it challenges women on all fronts to be equipped morally, spiritually, socially, economically, and technologically to be prepared and this is possible when women are given wholesome education.
