Bauchi Gov. Halts Farming Activities, Rearing Around Airport

Bauchi state government halted all farming activities and animal rearing in and outside around the Sir, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport SATBIA premises during the rainy season to tackle insecurity in the area
The management stated this during security stakeholders meeting with the host community leadership and members held at the airport on Friday.
On behalf of the state government the general manager of SATBIA, Surveyor Babagana Muhammad Tata, made the announcement during the engagement where number of vehicles were distributed to surveillance teams tasked with monitoring and safeguarding the airport.
According to Tata, the airport has faced security sabotage necessitating a revamp of the security system for effective service delivery.
He examined that the airport management is engaging communities surrounding the airport to monitor and report any vandalism to the airport authority.
Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Works and Transport, Engineer Muhammad Hamisu Garba, stated that " Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad has instructed the ministry to ensure hundred percent security of the airport in collaboration with security agencies, particularly the Department of State Security (DSS)".
Engineer Hamisu Garba noted that the airport experienced security breaches in November 2024, prompting the need for proactive measures.
To enhance security, the ministry has engaged seven surveillance personnel to monitor the airport and distributed eight bicycles and four motorcycles to community leaders and airport securities for surveillance purposes.
In his remarks, the Ward Head of Durum, Nasiru Musa represented by the Hamlet Head of Durum Fulani, Mallam Saleh Garba, pledged to continue monitoring and protecting airport properties, encouraging the community to take ownership of the airport and to report any suspicious movement without further hesitation.
