In a significant victory against cattle rustling, the Taraba State Taskforce on the Recovery of Stolen Cows has successfully recovered and returned 198 stolen cows to their rightful owners in Jalingo. The taskforce, led by Hon. (Dr.) Aminu Jauro Hassan, also recovered 58 sheep and 24 cows that are yet to be claimed.
According to Dr. Jauro, the recovery was made possible through the collaborative efforts of security agencies, local hunters, and the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria. A thorough screening of 52 cattle owner groups helped identify the rightful owners of the recovered cows.
The recovered cows were intercepted in the Gassol Local Government Area, and Dr. Jauro praised the efforts of intelligence officers and local hunters in making the recovery possible. The taskforce comprised local government chairmen from Ardo Kola, Gassol, Jalingo, Lau, and Karim Lamido, as well as security agencies and the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association.
Alhaji Ya'u Ibrahim, the Taraba state Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, expressed his gratitude to Governor Agbu Kefas for supporting the recovery initiative. He noted that such efforts promote peaceful coexistence among the state's communities.
The recovery of the stolen livestock is a significant achievement for the Taraba State government, which has been working to address the issue of cattle rustling in the state. The government has established a taskforce to recover stolen cows and has been working with local communities and security agencies to prevent future incidents.
The taskforce's efforts have not only recovered stolen livestock but have also helped to build trust between the government and local communities. The recovery of the stolen cows has brought relief to the affected farmers, who had lost their livelihoods due to the theft.
