SOCCER: Taraba FA Crisis Parties Involved, Sets for Out-of-Court Settlement

The protracted leadership crisis within the Taraba State Football Association (FA) is nearing a resolution after the Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo approved an out-of-court settlement to both parties
The conflicting claims have created confusion and instability within the association, potentially disrupting football activities in Taraba state
The Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice of Taraba State, Barrister Yakubu Maikasuwa, played a crucial role in advocating for this settlement. The case, initiated by Victor Ando Andrew and others, was about to resolved through the efforts of Barrister Nerus Johnson, who represented the Attorney General. Johnson expressed satisfaction with the Court's decision, highlighting its potential positive impact on the administration of football in the state.
Isa Buba Esq, the lead counsel for the plaintiffs, shared this optimism, expressing hope that the settlement would finally end the longstanding dispute. In the same vein, Barrister Shia Elija, representing the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), underscored the importance of the agreement.
Presiding Judge Salim Ibrahim commended both parties for their willingness to compromise and adhere to the Court's orders. He emphasized the need for compliance and set the next hearing for October 8, 2024.
The proceedings were attended by significant figures, including the Taraba State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Joseph Joshua, and the National Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation, Sanusi Mahmoud Muhammed among others.
It could be recall that the controversy surrounding the Taraba Football Association (FA) elections, two rival factions have both declared victory, resulting in a significant dispute. The elections, intended to appoint new officials for the FA, have instead led to a parallel elections scenario, with each faction asserting their legitimacy. This schism has prompted both groups to seek legal resolution, turning to the courts for redress.
