UNICEF Advocates Combating Child Poverty, Urged Media to Amplify

In an effort to combats child poverty the United Nations Children's Fund UNICEF has charged the media to use their widest coverage in amplifying the need to work closely with parents and stakeholders to fight against the menace that is so rampant among communities of Northeastern state of Nigeria

This was the main issue during the two day media dialogue organized by the UNICEF Bauchi Field Office BFO holding at the evolution hotel in Gombe state,

The journalists who are carefully selected to represent their media outlets especially those practicing from focus three states in the region, which includes Adamawa, Bauchi and Gombe

They were also charged to talk about the entire sub region lamenting that despite its huge potentials, the Northestern region has been contending with poor human development Indicators in virtually all areas.

This is compounded by the activities of insurgency and massive influx of people from conflict areas that surrounded the region, a development that has affected the impact of the modest gains the people are making.

The assertion was made in a goodwill message by the Gombe State Commissioner of Budget and Economic Salihu Baba Alkali during a the Media Dialogue on Child Poverty for Gombe, Adamawa and Bauchi State held at the Evolution Hotel, Gombe on Tuesday.

He said that, “As you are aware, the Media Chat on Child Poverty is in line with current developmental priorities of our dear Geo-political zone. Therefore, would be immensely contributory to an improved Child development.”

According to him, “In this regard, the Government and people of Gombe, Adamawa and Bauchi states are overwhelmed by this development as its timely to brainstorms and harness ideas on how to tackle the menace and reduce the indices of Child poverty in the region I commend UNICEF for their tireless support especially in the northeast state of Gombe, Adamawa and Bauchi.”

He said that, “I feel delighted to deliver the Goodwill Message of this all- important North East states of Adamawa, Gombe and Bauchi Media Chat on Child Poverty towards Improving the wellbeing and promoting sustainable growth for our future children.”

According to him, “The presence of this noble people from those states at this time is a clear demonstration of the UNICEF administration’s drive.”

He added that, “At this juncture, I wish to commend UNICEF for choosing Gombe state to be the host state for this media dialogue translating concept to concrete results is not easy and indeed could be herculean. 

Therefore, I wish to assure you of our government’s full support and partnership to ensure maximum benefit for the growth and development of the nation as a whole
