LIVING COST CRISIS: Bauchi Govt. Intensifies Campaign Against Hoarding Of Food Items

Efforts to stop hording of food items and other consumables by marketers in Bauchi state have been intensified after several complaints by citizens across the state
The emergency stakeholders meeting by the Bauchi state public complaints and anti-corruption commission with marketers and dealers with a view to enlightening them on the implications of hoarding the commodities and also to stem the lingering high cost of foodstuff and other consumables which have caused severe hardship among cutezens
The meeting was attended by dealers from major markets in Bauchi metropolis is to get them well informed on the legal implications of unlawful dealings, with the sole aimed at providing solutions to the lingering high cost of essential goods and services on daily basis and increment of other consumable commodities.
Speaking shortly with news men after the meeting, Chairman of the Commission retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Sani Usman Muhammad said the his team will soon swing in to action in accordance with the provision of the law after which they will constitute a joint committee to deal with those found of hoarding assorted food items that has inflicted untold hardship on many people across the state
In his submission the chairman Bauchi state chapter of the Amalgamated Union of Traders and Artisans of Nigeria Abdullahi Y. Muhammad said from their end the commission will witness maximum cooperation during their operation to ensure that the desired objectives is achievable at the end
Also in his response Muhammad Khalid Yusuf from Bauchi Central Market who spoke on behalf of other dealers present at the interaction said they are merely distributors not producers and they fix their prices based on how they bought the commodities from the producing companies.
On the issue of stock hoarding, especially the local rice, Khalid said the allegation might be true hoping that the commission would bring to an end soon
