Entrepreneurship Drive: NGO Builds Capacity of 50 Women, Girls in Bauchi

A non-governmental organization, World Changers Exceptional Organization (WOCEO), has trained and empowered fifty women and adolescents girls in Birshin Gandu Community a suburb area in the state.

The beneficiaries comprising married, single mother and windows among which are vulnerable and the most vulnerable group on modern techniques of making homemade bread, pasta, and dawawa to make them self-sufficient and self-reliant, with a view to supporting their families.

The Executive Director, Mrs. Blessings Ogenyi, while speaking to journalists during the commencement of the training in Bauchi, said the programme was designed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge on entrepreneurship and work skills in making homemade bread, pasta, and dawawa to enhance their economic independence.

She explained that the project, sponsored by Brot and implemented by the Development Exchange Center (DEC), aims to reduce the burden on women through business development and skills acquisition.

According to her, fifty participants were selected from the Birshin Gandu community, aged between 14 and 50, including young girls and housewives. She added that the participants would also receive training on how to market their products effectively after production. 

Mrs. Ogenyi continued that the training is scheduled to last for five days, with sessions lasting three hours each day.

Confirming her remarks, the teachers commended the groups for their vision, saying that the programme would go a long way in shaping the minds of the participants to be productive, independent, and resourceful.

Some of the participants, in an interview, expressed their joy and pledged to be punctual and dedicated throughout the training. They commended the organizers for recognizing themselves and providing such an opportunity.

According to them, this program opened their eyes to new opportunities and gave them the confidence to be self-reliant in supporting their families, especially during times of economic challenges or emergencies.

Highlights of the training included practical demonstrations on how to make homemade pasta, sweets, and delicacies such as chin-chin, cakes, and bread by participants, as well as group photos showcasing the process.
