Bauchi Police Discover Suspected 387 Cannabis Leaves at Accident Point, Hand Over to NDLEA

The Bauchi State Police Command is currently conducting a thorough investigation into a motor vehicle accident that took place on October 4, 2025, at about 11:30 AM in Wom Village, Toro LGA, Bauchi State.

The incident involved two Toyota Corolla vehicles while on searching the police discovered 387 suspected cannabis leaves at the accident point along Nabordo village Bauchi to Jos highway.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Bauchi state  Police Public Relations officer onbehalf of the commissioner of Police  Aliyu Sani Omolori and shared to journalists on Friday.

The statement explained that, initial reports from eyewitnesses and preliminary investigations indicate that the first vehicle, a white Toyota Corolla with registration number ABC-459LF, was operated by Ali Muhammad, a 45-year-old resident of Nabardo Village. He was transporting the District Head of Nabardo, Suleiman Bala Suleiman, aged 65, along with his family members as they travelled from Bauchi Metro to Nabardo Village.

The second vehicle, another white Toyota Corolla with registration number GWA-155GW, was driven by an individual yet to be identified, who was travelling from Jos, Plateau State, towards Bauchi. It is reported that this driver attempted to overtake other vehicles without exercising adequate caution, resulting in a head-on collision with the first vehicle.

Wakil further revealed, the, occupants of both vehicles sustained varying degrees of injuries and were promptly transported to Abubakr Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for medical care. The District Head suffered a fracture in his left leg and is currently receiving treatment there, while other victims are also being treated, and some have since been discharged.

"In the aftermath of the incident, during the search at the scene, the detectives recovered several items in the damaged Toyota Corolla vehicle with registration number Abuja GWA-155GW, including the following:

One black travel bag containing personal effects, Two polyethene bags with personal items, One black Tecno phone without a SIM card, A damaged Toyota Corolla (Abuja GWA-155GW) without keys, as well as national driver’s license and motor vehicle documents

The command mentioned that, "these items have been forwarded to the State Investigation Department (S.I.D.) of the Bauchi State Command for further discreet investigation and forensic analysis. After which, the case will be transferred to NDLEA for further investigation".

According to them, they are actively pursuing the unidentified driver to ensure accountability and prompt legal action. The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, encourage anyone with information regarding the driver’s identity to come forward and assist in the investigation. The police are committed to diligently pursuing leads to identify the principal suspect.
