North-East Gov's Vow to Deals with Economic Hardship in the Region

The North-east governors’ forum (NEGF),
Have expressed deep concern over the current economic hardship faced by many Nigerians in the country, especially from the Northeast sub-region, this was part of the resolutions made during the 12th meetings held at Jalingo, the Taraba state capital.

The chairman of the forum the Borno state governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum who commended the growing coopration among member states discussing pressing issues and reinforcing inter-state collaboration.


The chairman further reads the key resolutions: on Security & Humanitarian Challenges: The Forum acknowledged progress in counter-insurgency efforts but expressed concern over persistent humanitarian and infrastructural deficits across the subregion.

He maintained that, Climate Risk & Flood Preparedness: In response to forecasts from credible agencies, the Forum called for proactive flood mitigation strategies, including sensitization of floodplain communities and urgent reconstruction of damaged infrastructure. It appealed to the Federal Government and the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) for support.

They explained more on Agriculture & Food Security: Alarmed by the rising cost of agricultural inputs, the Forum urged for increased subsidies and robust planning for dry season farming to avert a potential food crisis.

Regional Trade Promotion: The Forum announced the North-East Trade Fair, scheduled for December 2025 in Maiduguri, Borno State, in partnership with NECCIMA, to boost commerce and investment across the region.

Meanwhile, on the Energy & Infrastructure Development: Building on earlier commitments to renewable energy, the Forum tasked its Power and Energy Committee to develop a comprehensive Subregional Power Masterplan aimed at reducing energy poverty.

Education & Legacy Institutions: The Forum congratulated the University of Maiduguri on its 50th anniversary and pledged support for the celebration and the relaunch of its Endowment Fund in November 2025.

The forum announced that, the 13th edition of their meeting is slated to hold in Maiduguri, Borno State Capitol, from 12th to 14th December 2025.
