The Bauchi State Government's Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, in collaboration with United Nations UN Women, has organized stakeholders and community dialogue to advance advocacy, social norms, and policy change in the state.

Speaking at the one day stakeholders engagement on Monday in Bauchi, the desk officer at the Ministry of Women Affairs, Hadiza Isah Ahmed, said the initiative aims to sensitize communities on preventing gender-based violence (GBV), particularly against girls and women with a view to reduce GBV cases in the state and promote a culture of respect and protection for girls and women.

She stated that the project is a collaborative effort between the ministry and UN Women, targeting four local government areas (Alkaleri, Bauchi, Dambam, and Zaki) where GBV cases are prevalent.

According to her, the project will last for six months and may be extended based on its impact.

Speakers at the event, including representatives from the Ministry of Justice, clergymen and community leaders, emphasized the need for God fearing, attitudinal and behavioral change, proper monitoring of children, and listening to their complaints to prevent GBV.

They also highlighted the importance of fearing God and taking responsibility for one's actions.

Some of the cases identified during the dialogue included emotional abuse, physical abuse, intimate partner rape, and abandonment.
