The Taraba State Government is facing intense criticism from the Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for allegedly sidelining the press during major state functions. The Chapel has condemned the government's actions, citing a blatant disregard for press freedom and transparency.

Noting that the Correspondents Chapel was not accredited to cover the Taraba State International Investment Summit (TARAVEST) and the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the state. Furthermore, the NUJ has announced an immediate and indefinite boycott of all Taraba State Government activities.

Addititionally, the union has passed a vote of no confidence in the Taraba State Commissioner for Information, Zainab Usman Jalingo, over her alleged role in excluding its members from a road walk event.

Meanwhile, the NUJ Correspondents Chapel reassured residents of Taraba State of its commitment to its watchdog role, promising to continue reporting on issues affecting citizens and holding the government accountable.

However, the Correspondent's boycott of government activities may have significant implications for the state's public image and transparency. The union's actions demonstrate the importance of press freedom and the role of journalists in holding those in power accountable.

The Taraba State Government's alleged exclusion of the press from major events has sparked widespread criticism from the Correspondents. The union's boycott of government activities and vote of no confidence in the Commissioner for Information underscore the need for greater transparency and press freedom in the state.
