Bauchi Groups Advocates for Improve Quality Healthcare through integrated Supportive Supervision

Group of civil society organizations has advocated for improving quality healthcare service delivery, through integrated supportive supervision initiative in collaborations with different stakeholders in Bauchi state

They made the initiative during a round table discussion with journalists held at the press center Bauchi, recently.

During the discussion the convener of the meeting Ogadimma Ekenah Ogbonna highlighted what is expected of all stakeholders involved in the area of healthcare improve system through out the state 

He further explained that the cluster project consist of 6 Six civil society across the country, with better life restoration initiative BERI saving as the anchor organization

According to statement, the cluster implementing the scale of project a USAID funded 5 five year project from October 2020- 2025, implemented by palladium in collaboration with Nigeria Resources Partners RPs

The groups explained that, the benefit of ISS includes the followings. Strengthen of healthcare system, enhance quality service delivery, improve performance, encourage open two way communications, enhancing team building spirits, as well as problem solving.

However, the group highlighted some of the key issues, the current structure and placement of Integrated Supportive Supervision is suboptimal there fire limit their capacity.

Domestic financing support for integrated supportive supervision ISS is in adequate and there is high dependency on donor fundings

High cost of fuel and transportation is negatively impacting ISS activities in all the target states

Limiting supervision activities to Main Primary Healthcare Centers PHCs of every wards

On the alternatives the groups also mentioned that, although, the National Basic Healthcare Provision Funds (NBHPF) provides funding and supervision of 323 main PHCs in the state, this however is grossly inadequate because the state has 1,300 PHCs, the reliance on donor fundings in conducting supervision is unsustainable 

The non inclusion of private partners in fundings and supporting ISS activities in the state, is robbing the state off valuable resources, 

Finally, according to them, the non existence of technical working group to plan and implimenting ISS activities in the state is having a negative impact on ISS activities.

In his contribution Jinjiri Garba of BASNEC during the meeting he urged  journalists in the state to ensure that the collaboration is in the best interest of the entire community to benefit healthcare service deliver throughout the state

He noted that, the Interpreted Supportive Supervision ISS is an intervention that facilitate quality improvement by ensuring adquate oversight as well as skills and knowledge transfer to healthcare service providers.

The statement further revealed that, ISS has been accepted, tested and proven to enhance the performance and effectiveness of healthcare workers.
