A group of advocacy and civil society organisations has called on President Bola Tinubu to act swiftly to restore public confidence in governance and the integrity of Nigeria’s anti-corruption war by directing for full investigation of the activities of the Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), Dr. Abubakar Adamu Dabban.
The group, under the auspices of the 'Voice of the Voiceless Nigerians', made the call at a press conference in Abuja, recently.
The group alleged that there is fraudulent practices going on in the agency under the leadership of Dr Abubakar Adamu Adamu Dabban, specifically, job racketeering.
In a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the group in Abuja, Oluwatosin Adejare, it called on the relevant authorities like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to swing into action.
According the group, the principle of Federal Character principles which gives equal opportunities to all Nigerians irrespective of their tribes and religion to consider for appointment has been violated.
The group noted that, The Federal Character Commission (FCC) is a Federal Executive body established by Act No 34 of 1996 to implement and enforce the Federal Character Principle of fairness and equity in the distribution of public posts and socio-economic infrastructures among the various federating units of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The group calls for investigation over alleged involvement of corruption and jobs rekacteering citing concerns over the Executive Secretary lawlessness and ballatant disregard for constitutional provisions in the distribution of the slots among the federating units.
They called on President Asiwaju Ahmad Tinubu to urgently investigate the alleged scandal rocking the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria and take the necessary disciplinary action on Executive Secretary to allow independent investigations.
The group stated that, "This is unconstitutional, shameful, and a disturbing abuse of office. Rather than address the focus on his mandate of developing agricultural policies that are aimed at reviving the sector, the Executive Secretary has shifted from his leadership responsibilities."
