Taraba State Police Command Thwarts Kidnap Attempt, Rescues 17 Passengers

The Taraba State Police Command has successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt along the Wukari highway, rescuing 17 passengers from a People's Choice bus.

This is according to a press statement signed by the command's Acting Police Public Relations Officer, ASP James Lashen Saminu, and issued to newsmen in Jalingo on Sunday, 

According to the release, the incident occurred on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at approximately 11:45 PM. The swift response of police and military personnel led to the suspects fleeing into the bushes, allowing the rescue of the 17 passengers, who were unharmed. 

Initially, one passenger was reported missing, but was later rescued unhurt.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Bretet Emmanuel Simon, commended the operatives for their bravery, saying, "We commend our operatives for their exceptional work and reaffirm our commitment to fighting kidnapping in Taraba State. We urge the public to support our efforts by reporting suspicious activities." 

A manhunt for the kidnappers is currently underway.
