The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has condoled with the family, friends, and colleagues of the late Peter "Dodo Mayana" Rufai, a Super Eagles legend who left an indelible mark on Nigerian football.

In a statement signed by SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, and Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, the association described Rufai as a patriot who brought pride to Nigeria through his remarkable career.

"We are grief-stricken by the demise of this legendary figure," Benjamin said. "His legacy will continue to inspire future generations, and we believe it's essential for the Federal Government to immortalize him in a fitting manner."

Benjamin commiserated with Rufai's family, the football community, and sports stakeholders, acknowledging the legend's invaluable contributions to Nigerian sports. "His advice and experience were still needed for a more prosperous sports development, but God's ways are mysterious," he added.

The SWAN president prayed for eternal rest for Rufai's soul, saying, "May his soul continuously find rest in eternity."

Rufai's illustrious career is a testament to his hard work and dedication. His impact on Nigerian football will be remembered for generations to come.
