JCI Bauchi City Reminds Youth for Collective Responsibility, Ethical Leadership

Junior Chambers International JCI Bauchi City, in collaboration with Students Union Government SUG Federal Polytechnic Bauchi (FPTB) reinded youth for collective responsibility and change their mindset while taking leadership role, during the commemoration of 2025 International Human Duties Day with renew call for, ethical behavior on Thursday 10 July 2025
With the theme: “Our Duty to Humanity: Voices for Responsibility,” it drawed the attention of students, faculty members, youth advocates, and Human Duties Ambassadors.
The event was a Human Duties Awareness Workshop that emphasized on the role of young people in fostering civic responsibility, ethical leadership, and digital integrity in today’s society.
In his opening remarks, Akintunde Tajudeen Taiwo, President of JCI Bauchi City, reminded attendees that leadership is not about entitlement but duty.
“This celebration is not just symbolic — it’s a call to action. Progress demands participation, and participation begins with responsibility,” he said.
Representing the Rector, Alhaji Sani Usman, the Dean of the School of Agricultural Engineering, Dr. Abdullahi Mohammed, commended the initiative, noting its impact on student development and leadership training.
“We are proud to support programs that nurture responsible leadership. Today’s gathering is a step in the right direction,” he stated.
Also welcoming participants was Comrade Haruna Umar, SUG President, who urged students to embrace the message of the day and step up as responsible youth leaders.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Malam Hassan Alhaji Hassan, former Dean of the School of General Studies and a JCI Human Duties Ambassador. He emphasized the critical role youth must play in rebuilding society.
“Unless youth define themselves as responsible individuals, they cannot lead change. Your contributions are central to Nigeria’s future,” he told students.
The workshop featured two passionate Human Duties Ambassadors: Mrs. Abigail Hardo Adegoke and Dr.Ogadinma Nkem Ogbonna, who addressed topics around youth advocacy, mental resilience, and civic engagement.

Dr. Ogbonna outlined practical ways students can drive change in their communities.
“Youth advocacy must be rooted in duty, not entitlement. Promote peace, fight corruption, protect the environment, use technology ethically, and influence policy with integrity,” he advised.
Highlights of the event was the launching of a documentary titled “Our Duty to Humanity: Voices for Responsibility.” Introduced by JCI Bauchi City President, the film features inspiring stories of changemakers who exemplify the Seven Pillars of Human Duties from preserving life and serving humanity to leading responsibly.
The event also included an interactive dialogue, petition signing, and a signature booth where over 100 students pledged their commitment to ethical living and community service.
The event concluded with group photographs and a renewed partnership between JCI Bauchi City and the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, reinforcing a shared commitment to civic engagement and youth leadership.
It also aligned with global development frameworks, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), while advancing the JCI RISE pillars that emphasize youth empowerment, digital transformation, and sustainable leadership.
