The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) Taraba State University (TSU) indutrial strike continue their indefinite strike, which began in December 2024, until the state government meets its demands.
The union is seeking the payment of withheld salaries, including full salaries for September and October 2022, as well as withheld salary balances for June, November, and December 2022.
The union's chairman, Bitrus Joseph, stated that despite the state government's efforts to address some of their demands, the strike will continue until all issues are fully resolved. The union is also seeking the payment of Earned Administrative Allowances (EAA), promotion arrears, and the implementation of a pension scheme.
Additionally, the union is requesting that the state Ministry of Tertiary Education direct the university management to apply the guidelines for appointments and promotions of senior non-academic staff, as approved by the council in 2020.
The strike has been ongoing for several weeks, and the union has emphasized that it is not related to the proposed peaceful demonstration by students that was averted. The state government has approved and implemented the N70,000 new National Minimum Wage of 2024, as well as the payment of peculiar allowances, but the union is seeking further action to address their demands.
