Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has frowned and condemned the operation of some officials of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) over the illegal disconnection of power supply in Bauchi State.
The statement was contained in a release signed by the state secretary of the NUJ council, Isah Garba Gadau and made available to media houses.
The union in a Press statement issued on Monday expressed displeasure over the activities of personnel of JED, while embarking on unnecessary disconnection of electricity power supply, particularly to customers with prepaid meters, in a bid to force them back to estimated billing after series of explanation to resolve amicably, but they remained adamant.
Bauchi Council of NUJ observed that there is lacuna in the payment of power supply in the name of estimated bills especially in paying for services not rendered including payments for darkness.
The Union also faulted and maintained that some JED officials who deliberately frustrate and embrass their customers even those operating with prepaid meters, simply to force them adopt to estimated bills for their personal benefits.
The Council of NUJ advised Bauchi State Government, ministries and agencies to look for alternative power supply, so that they would make a lot of savings from the outrageous estimated billing being issued to them on monthly basis.
NUJ called on JED management to always engage trained personnel that have good human relations with customers to enable them provide effective services to their customers.
