By Adamu IMAM, Bauchi
Bauchi state governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed says the construction of 203.47 kilometers of rural roads represents more than physical infrastructure; it symbolizes the vision of Bauchi state where no community is left behind, where development is fair and balanced, and driven by the needs of the people with equity and justice.
The governor stated this today while addressing a mammoth crowd at Gamawa local government area, the venue of the flagging-off of rural roads under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing RAAMP under World Bank-assisted project. He said the project is implemented by the state government in collaboration with the federal government.
Bala Mohammed explained that the ceremony may be holding in Gamawa, but it is for all Bauchi state, from Dass to Ningi, Misau to Bogoro, Kirfi to Alkaleri.
The governor further said, "Today is a collective progress for our entire state. We are grateful to the federal government, we are grateful to the World Bank, and all development partners.
Roads are the artery of opportunities; they connect farmers to markets, women to healthcare, children to schools, security agencies to vulnerable communities, and rural economy to national prosperity."
"For decades, many communities in Bauchi suffered neglect; roads became impassable during the rainy season, farmers lost produce, students and sick people were unable to get timely medical attention. By the grace of Allah, this era is over," he said.
Bala continued that when they met, the key pillar of their transformation agenda and aligned perfectly with his Bauchi project one and two, talking about agricultural modernization, including development and good governance, youth empowerment, poverty reduction, and sustainable infrastructure. But when they come to roads, it's about connecting communities, boosting rural economies, and laying the foundation of lasting prosperity.
